Important Notice: Transition to a New Chapter for Shinshoji

Thank you very much for your continued support of the Shinshoji Zen and Garden Museum.
To preserve and pass on the spirit of Zen to future generations, Shinshoji has decided to begin a new chapter under a renewed organizational structure and mission.
With this transition, we will further strengthen our commitment to preserving and sharing the authentic practice and teachings of Zen.
We sincerely appreciate your continued understanding and support.

Transition Schedule

The Shinshoji Zen and Garden Museum will conclude its current operations on December 31, 2026.
Following a preparation period, the temple will reopen on April 1, 2027, as Shinshoji, a temple of the Kennin-ji Branch of the Rinzai School of Zen.

Our New Mission

Since the renewal of the temple grounds in 2016, Shinshoji has welcomed visitors as the Shinshoji Zen and Garden Museum,
offering opportunities to experience Zen through a unique setting that harmonizes historic temple buildings with contemporary architecture and art.
Beginning in April 2027, Shinshoji will move beyond its role as a cultural and tourism destination and further establish itself as a place dedicated to the practice and transmission of Zen.
As a Zen training temple, we will provide training for monastic practitioners while also offering members of the public opportunities to experience Zen through programs such as overnight Zen retreats and other practice-based experiences.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has visited and supported us over the years.
We look forward to welcoming you as the new Shinshoji and appreciate your continued encouragement.
